Oxygen Always is happy to announce to our clients that as of this month, the Philips brand SimplyGo Mini portable oxygen concentrators are approved for commercial airplanes. This news comes as a relief to not only SimplyGo owners, but also to oxygen concentrator owners nationwide, as more devices are making their way onto commercial flights.
The Philips division, Respironics, has conformed to the Federal Aviation Administration stipulations, which led to the devices being approved for use on airplanes. This marks another success in the struggle for portable oxygen concentrators on airplanes, and it sends a message to other providers who have yet to meet the stipulations for air travel.
SimplyGo Mini portable oxygen concentrators are well-known for their lightweight structure and long lasting batteries. However, safety issues have been keeping portable oxygen concentrators off of airplanes until now. If all oxygen concentrator manufacturers can develop devices that are in FAA compliance, then every oxygen user would be able to travel more frequently and breathe easy will doing so.
The FAA has a number of important considerations when allowing a medical-portable electronic device (M-PED) on board of an airplane. In all flights, the most important factor is the safety of the flight itself. If a device is shown to not interfere with the operation of the flight or interfere with the safety of the passengers, then safety is not a concern for that device. However, certain oxygen concentrators may not be deemed as safe for flight due to air compression and flammability risks.
Is your portable oxygen concentrator approval for flight? Check the FAA portable oxygen concentrator approval list. For a full explanation of the M-PED ruling, see the FAAs M-PED guideline.
